Local Love: Welland Public Library

Step into any branch of Welland Public Library and you’ll feel it right away: this is more than a place to borrow books. It’s a home for curiosity, connection, and discovery - a space built for every neighbour in Welland.

The Welland Public Library operates three physical branches across the city, each serving its neighbourhood’s unique needs. But the library’s services don't stop at those walls - their digital offerings let you explore, learn, and engage from home!

Programs & Events

One of the things that makes the Welland Public Library truly beloved is its ever-evolving roster of programs and events. Some current and recurring offerings include:

• Children & Youth Programs: Storytimes, craft workshops, summer reading clubs - all inviting little ones (and their caregivers) to dive in and explore.
• Adult Workshops & Lectures: Topics ranging from digital literacy to local history, financial wellness, or hands-on sessions like writing, genealogy, or tech help.
• Community Events & Pop-Ups: The library hosts special events like pop-up produce markets, seasonal crafting fairs, and fun family drop-in activities.
• Special Celebrations & Series: The library also marks milestones like its 200-year anniversary with community celebrations, as well as themed series, speaker events, and collaborative programs with other local partners!

Coming in 2026: The Bookmobile Rolls Out!

One of the most exciting developments on the horizon is the arrival of Welland’s Bookmobile, launching in 2026. This mobile library will bring books, media, and library programming on wheels - straight into neighbourhoods.

This is huge news for the community. Here’s why it matters:

• It reaches people who may find it harder to visit a branch (e.g. seniors, schools, underserved corners of Welland)
• It can host pop-up storytimes, lending, and on-the-spot library services
• It reinforces the library’s mission of meeting people where they are, not asking everyone to come to it!

Though details are still being finalized, this new outreach vehicle signals a beautiful step forward: expanding access, encouraging literacy, and deepening community connection.
